Aniston named force behind anti-paparazzi law

New York, Dec 31 (IANS) Former “Friends” star Jennifer Aniston’s activism has been the force behind a new state law in California that restricts the paparazzi.

Aniston’s activism was instrumental in the success of Assembly Bill 524, which takes effect from Jan 1, according to Assembly Speaker Karen Bass, who revealed that the actress’ horror stories prompted her to fast track the legislation, reports hollywood.com.

Swann break into top-five in ICC rankings

Dubai, Dec 31 (IANS) England off-spinner Graeme Swann has capped off a memorable year by breaking into the top five of the Reliance Mobile International Cricket Council’s rankings for Test bowlers.

Swann finishes 2009 in third position in the bowlers’ category after his man-of-the-match performance in the second Test against South Africa in Durban.

Kotla pitch was dangerous to play on, asserts Sangakkara

Colombo, Dec 31 (IANS) Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara has finally fired his salvo at the Ferozeshah Kotla pitch, saying that it was a “dangerous pitch to play on”.

“Even after 6-10 overs, we could feel that the pitch was not normal. But the Match Referee (Alan Hurst) said, ‘I cannot do anything. It was a call for the on-field umpires to take’. We spoke to the fourth umpire as well. We cannot, from outside, make a request to the on-field umpires. So, the two on-field batsmen had to make a request,” Sangakkara said here.

The man, still on the loose, was identified by police as a 43-year-old with a criminal record.

“We have already selected and finalized the deal for a flat costing Rs.3.2 million in the Mumbai suburbs. Even ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ director Danny Boyle has approved it. After finalizing the relevant formalities, Rubina and her family plan to shift there within a month,” Rubina’s business manager Dinesh Dubey told IANS here Thursday evening.
