Is ‘Kurbaan’ like other terror films?

Mumbai, Nov 1 (IANS) Karan Johar’s upcoming “Kurbaan” is being likened to films on terror like “New York” and “Fanaa” but the filmmaker is no longer giving the straight-jacketed ‘It’s truly different’ reply. He has instead left it to the audiences to find out if there are any similarities between the movies.

We played smart cricket, says Yuvraj

New Delhi, Nov 1 (IANS) Yuvraj Singh, whose 148-run stand with Mahendra Singh Dhoni guided India to a six-wicket victory in the third ODI against Australia, said that they played “smart cricket” on a slow wicket to take a 2-1 lead in the series.

Yuvraj (78) and Dhoni (71 not out) curbed their attacking instinct to forge a match-winning fourth wicket partnership as India reached the target of 230 runs with 10 balls remaining.

Four bookies arrested in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, Oct 31 (IANS) Four bookies were arrested here for betting on the third one day cricket match test between India and Australia Saturday, police said.

The arrest comes two days before India and Australia are to play in neighbouring Mohali.

Over 2,000 Punjab students to see Mohali match

Mohali (Punjab), Oct 31 (IANS) Over 2,000 students from different schools in Punjab will come to the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium here to witness the day-night match between India and Australia Monday, an official said Saturday.

“Over 2,000 students from various towns and villages of Punjab will come here Monday to see the match,” PCA president I.S. Bindra told reporters.

Girl, 14, is third swine flu victim in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, Oct 31 (IANS) A 14-year-old girl died from Influenza A (H1N1) virus Saturday, becoming the third swine flu casualty here, a health official said.

The victim was a native of Karnal town in Haryana, around 130 km from here. She was a student of Class 7 and was staying in the hostel of Sant Nikka Singh Model School in Karnal.

‘Terror in Pakistan may spill over to India’ (Lead)

Bangalore/Udhampur, Oct 31 (IANS) The spate of terror strikes and the resultant turmoil in Pakistan may spill over to India, top central government and army officials said Saturday.

“I think we can expect some of the terror strikes in Pakistan to spill over to India. As Pakistan is in turmoil, we have to be vigilant and fully prepared to thwart any attack on us,” union Home Secretary G.K. Pillai said in Banglaore during an interaction with the alumni of Bishop Cotton Boys School, where he was a student in the early 1960s.

India, Australia players pay tribute to David Shepherd (Kotla Diary)

New Delhi, Oct 31 (IANS) India and Australia cricket teams Saturday paid tribute to legendary English umpire David Shepherd, who died Oct 28, before the start of the third one-day international at Ferozeshah Kotla here.

The players and match officials took the field wearing black armbands and observed a two-minute silence to pay their condolences to Shepherd, who died after a long battle with cancer. He was 68.
