India’s moon mission operation suspended (Second Lead)

Bangalore, Aug 29 (IANS) India suspended its first moon mission operation after the lunarcraft Chandrayaan-1 lost radio contact with the earth in the wee hours of Saturday, a top official of the Indian space agency said.

“At the moment, we have suspended the operation. Calling off the mission depends on what elements we get back. Whether there is any possibility of restoring contact with the spacecraft. These things are being investigated,” the state-run Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman G. Madhavan Nair told news channels at his residence in this tech hub.

Bangalore, Aug 29 (IANS) India may have to abort its first moon mission after attempts Saturday to restore radio contact with its lunarcraft Chandrayaan-1 proved futile, a senior space official said.

“Chandrayaan mission is as good as lost. Attempts to restore its communication link that snapped in the wee hours (01:30 IST) have failed,” Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) director S. Satish told IANS here.

Double for Ramkumar in national junior tennis

Chennai, Aug 29 (IANS) Unseeded Ramkumar Ramanathan of Tamil Nadu completed a fine double in the boys Under-18 category by adding the singles title to the doubles crown when he defeated Ronit Bisht of Delhi 6-4, 6-3 in the final of the Adidas MCC National Junior Tennis Championships, here Saturday.

Ramkumar, who had won the doubles title Friday, broke Bisht once in the first set and twice in the second to win in a canter.

New Delhi, Aug 29 (IANS) For six years, Raghu Ram has endeared himself to the audiences with his rude and humiliating comments on MTV’s reality adventure series “Roadies”, but it appears that the brain behind the show, might no longer be a part of its forthcoming season.

“Raghu has been with the show for many years. People know the kind of reactions to expect from him but this time he is not really a part of the show. In fact, having said that, we haven’t yet revealed who will be interviewing the contestants. There’s a huge surprise lying there… So you never know. It will blow your mind,” MTV general manager Ashish Patil told IANS at the launch of the seventh season of the show here Saturday.

Salman did not call off US trip: Boney Kapoor

New Delhi, Aug 29 (IANS) Producer Boney Kapoor has slammed reports that actor Salman Khan cancelled his trip to New York for promoting his upcoming release “Wanted” in the wake of Shah Rukh Khan’s detention at a US airport earlier this month.

Media reports had said that Salman called off the trip after Shah Rukh was detained and questioned by immigration officials at Newark airport for over two hours Aug 14.
