Games organisers rev up after PM’s tough talk

New Delhi, Aug 16 (IANS) Two days after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh called for “single-minded” devotion to make the Commonwealth Games a grand success, the Organising Committee vowed to hold a “great” event.

“We are in the last lap of preparations. With 30 days to go for the opening of the Games Village and 48 days for the Games, we are confident of having a great Games,” Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi said here.

Rahman asked to tweak CWG theme song

New Delhi, Aug 16 (IANS) Oscar winner A.R. Rahman is ready with the Commonwealth Games theme song but the Group of Ministers (GoM) on the Games has asked the composer to tweak it before the opening ceremony.

“I presented the theme song before the GoM and it was approved. I have been asked to tweak it and it will be released within next 10 days,” Rahman told reporters here at a function organised to launch the theme song.

Sreeram wins ‘Indian Idol 5′

Mumbai, Aug 15 (IANS) Hyderabad-based Sreeram Chandra has won the fifth season of music reality show “Indian Idol 5″ and was awarded by megastar Amitabh Bachchan.

The 24-year-old singer pipped Rakesh Maini from Agra and Bhoomi Trivedi of Baroda to win the contest. Sreeram has been consistently performing well on the show and receiving compliments galore from the Who’s Who of the Indian music industry.

GoM finalises Rahman’s CWG theme song (Lead)

New Delhi, Aug 15 (IANS) The Group of Ministers (GoM) on the Commonwealth Games has finalised Oscar winner A.R. Rahman’s theme song for the mega event and it will be made public in 10 days, the panel’s head said Sunday.

“GoM has finalized the theme song. A.R. Rahman will give final touches and it will be presented before the people in 10 days,” union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy told reporters after the two-hour long GoM meeting in Nirman Bhawan.

‘Robot’ comparable to ‘Sholay’: Rajnikant

Mumbai, Aug 15 (IANS) Southern superstar Rajnikant, who leaves audiences in awe with his implausible stunts and unique styles, says his forthcoming sci-fi movie “Robot” is the first Indian film of its type and that every aspect of it is comparable to cult Hindi movie “Sholay”.

“Around Rs.160 crore has been invested to make the film. It’s fantastic; technical excellence is there. ‘Sholay’ made history not because of the money or budget involved, not because it was a multi-starrer, not because of the technicalities, but because of its subject.
